Back to Cali Day 2: “You Got Knocked the F*&% Out!”

The Opinion had finally reached his final destination of the night. Relaxing in the comfort of Light’s guest air mattress, the tired radical writer wrangled his weary workout worn body to rest.

“WAKE UP!”

“Huh? Who Dat? Who Dere?”

“Its 7:30 Brother. You ready to go running?!” Said Light, the gracious hero harboring host. Light is a well known Yoga instructor by day and a downloading digital DJ by night.

  1. 800AM Running with vegetable boy. It was like trying to catch a rabbit. He’s got me running, Sprinting, high jumping, doing dips, chin ups, push ups, and handstands. And that was just the first lap! Two laps later you would see a man comfortable enough with his ego to ‘fast walk’ rather than run. My arms are noodles. First the Gold’s Gym workout, now this. As an enticement around lap 3, Light mentions a ‘Special Treat’ that is in-store after the workout. Knowing that he is a vegetarian, self made nutritionist health nut, I found it very hard to imagine any special treat of his, being exciting. After the workout we headed to the local raw / health food mart. Fresh squeezed watermelon juice was quite tasty.
  2. 10:30AM Yoga Class at Crunches Gym in Hollywood. Set up the mat, and was tortured by Light, the smug yoga drill Sergeant for an hour. *Note: The arm shaking visible in the first 8 seconds of ‘downward dog’ can be attributed to the previously mentioned spaghetti noodle arms.
  3. Off to Lunch at Urth Café. Light was gracious enough to accommodate my request for lunch to include a dead animal. My arms needed protein, and I haven’t had eggs in days. At lunch we discussed real estate, likely my most popular topic of conversation. At the next table one of the actors from “Prison Break” quietly listened in. Chump. He should pay me for that.
  4. We took the conversation to the street, and ran into an admiring fan/student of Light’s. Apparently this guy is really making a difference with people. Next we hit a tea room with an outdoor porch. Tiny “Deebo” Lister and guests walk in and sit at the next table. A group of men were pitching a script to him and his wife. When we left he spoke to us! I reciprocated and told him that he and I have a friend in common. Talk about turning on the lights, he immediately became more than welcoming. On his instruction the script pitching lackeys all stood and were jockeying for position to meet us. LOL! Dee-Bo! That made my day.
  5. Hopped in the Lo-Lo and Met up with M..Dot. (You’re in the office baby)
  6. Headed to the airport and picked up Lavell AKA Phil Bailey AKA “He’s an Easy Lover” in from Denver.

  1. Light called and told me that Sy Smith, a musician friend from college, was performing that night locally. We headed by the spot but missed the shows and the place was dead. I headed to the bathroom before we left. In the hallway by the bathroom door I walked in on a HU reunion! Sy, Loren Samuel, and Eugene Young. That was cool.
  1. My arms and chest still hurt. I was running on only 4 hours of sleep and was DONE. 1:30AM (4:30A EST)

Tomorrow: “Head over Hills”
